About Dorchester Hypnotherapy

Whilst Dorchester Hypnotherapy is a new business name I have been helping people overcome their issues since gaining a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy in January of 2014.

My particular areas of interest are self-confidence, anxiety, self-esteem, phobias, changing negative thinking and achieving life goals.

I use techniques from both Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching to help people get to where they want to be.

About Me

Outside of work I enjoy time with friends, snuggling up with my two daughters and watching films, yoga, reading and my own continued personal development.

I enjoy working out, in particular body weight exercises (calisthenics), walking, swimming, falling off of paddleboards and being outside.

I recently renovated a 3 bedroom house for myself and two daughters to live in and that has resulted in a required obsession with DIY and learning home improvements as well as personal ones!

Qualifications:
Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy
NLP Practictioners’ Certificate
BSc In Mathematics from the Open University (this isn’t particularly relevant but 7 years of hard graft means I want to show it off somewhere at least)

Also an Accredited Practitioner of The General Hypnotherapy Register

About Hypnosis

Perhaps you’ve had a hypnotherapy session before or perhaps hypnosis and hypnotherapy is entirely new to you.

Maybe your opinion of hypnosis has been formed by seeing a hypnosis stage show or even from episodes of Scooby Doo.

Let’s first of all clear up what hypnosis isn’t.
It isn’t putting people into trances.
It isn’t like sleep at all.
You can’t get stuck in hypnosis.
Hypnosis isn’t creating altered realities for people either.
And it certainly isn’t mind control – if it was I’d just get bank managers to give me loans which I didn’t have to pay back ever and be writing this from a log cabin in the New Zealand’s South Island enjoying a cup of tea which sadly I’m not.

So, what is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the art and science of suggestion.

Sorry if that’s disappointing to hear but it is also just plain accurate.

Becoming hypnotised is a skill which I teach clients to do, once they have learnt how to be hypnotised well they can actually learn to do it themselves without me.

They can be self-sufficient in their progress or maintenance of whatever issue they have.

When hypnotised you tend to feel more relaxed, at ease and potentially more imaginative.
People often expect to feel massively different but it can just feel like you’re sat with your eyes closed.

About Hypnotherapy

As a clinical hypnotherapist I tend to combine the logical approach of cognitive behavioural therapy with the relaxation and suggestion that is brought about using hypnosis.

My approach is very much present and future based as opposed to other hypnotherapists who may well concentrate on your past.

I do not offer regression therapy of any type as I personally believe it is unnecessary and potentially dangerous.

This isn’t to say that your issues might well stem from what has happened in your past but it is to say that my approach is to deal with how that actually affects you in the present day.

Studies have shown that a cognitive behavioural approach to hypnotherapy is the most effective use of hypnosis in a therapeutic setting.
