“Within 2 sessions I was already able to cope with my anxiety much better”
I saw Chris a couple of times because of my fear of being trapped in small or overcrowded places which started to affect my daily life.
Within 2 sessions I was already able to cope with my anxiety much better.
He showed me techniques how to control my panic before it gets out of hand.
I am not cured but I feel much more positive now that I can deal with these stressful situations much better!
“I am now able to get on and just live my life”
I went to Chris with an extreme spider phobia.
Life had become difficult and I was suffering panic attacks just thinking of being in the house.
I had my first session with Chris and I can honestly say it had a massively positive impact.
Within the first week I was comfortable at home, had stopped carrying the hoover around just in case and had even put myself into situations that I would have found impossible before.
4 sessions later and my phobia is no longer there.
I am now able to get on and just live my life.
Can’t thank Chris enough.
Hypnotherapy for Phobias and Fears
Hypnotherapy is a great way to help you overcome your phobia or fears.
The feeling of fear is actually there to help and protect us from things which we consider to be dangerous to us.
Being afraid of tigers, snakes etc is what has kept us alive for thousands of years because our brains recognise the fear and get us to take appropriate action.
This is what we’d refer to as a rational fear.
It is a time when our body goes into a “fight or flight” in which we are primed to either fight off the tiger or run from the tiger to preserve ourselves.
Our brains send out huge amounts of adrenaline and other hormones to facilitate this heightened state.
This “fight or flight mode” does come with side effects though:
- Your heart rate and blood pressure increases. …
- Skin can become pale or flushed
- Pain response is affected
- Dilated pupils
- Feeling on edge
- Memory can be affected
- Feeling tense
- Shaking
- Sweating
- Bowels can be affected
- Bladder might be affected
And more
None of these things would particularly matter to you if you were fighting for your life because you’re busy fighting off a tiger.
The side effects become much more of an issue when you’re just trying to go about your day to day life.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy for Phobias in Dorchester
At Dorchester Hypnotherapy I can help you with irrational fears.
These, in essence, are things which you perceive as threatening to you when in reality they aren’t.
Our brains have learnt that they should respond as if there is a tiger in the room when instead, for example, you’re speaking in public or visiting the dentist.
With cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy we can offer a “two-pronged” approach to overcoming your fear.
Firstly we can examine the thoughts that you’re having surrounding the fear and teach you to stop and correct these thoughts.
Secondly, using relaxation and hypnosis techniques we can calmly take you through an imagined scenario of your phobia occurring but in a completely safe space done at a pace which is comfortable to you.
Using these two tactics hand-in-hand will bring you to a point where you’re ready to use the skills you’ve learnt in the “therapy room” in real life scenarios where you can overcome whatever phobia has been holding you back.

I came to Chris because my fear of spiders was so bad that it was preventing me from taking my trip of a lifetime to Thailand.
4 weeks later I was happily jumping on a plane to Phuket!
“Something I hadn’t done in 8 years”
I contacted Chris for my severe travel anxiety which I had suffered with for years.
I can honestly say it’s the best decision I made as Chris is very understanding and knowledgeable about every aspect of my anxieties. I had a few sessions and afterwards I managed to do a journey without having a panic attack, without feeling completely overwhelmed by the whole thing which I hadn’t done in 8 years!
That definitely was down to these sessions with Chris as he is so good at his job – he has taught me so much of how to deal with situations that I used to find impossible.
