Hypnotherapy for Changing Habits
Whether it is biting your nails, pulling your hair, picking your skin or any other habit hypnotherapy has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to reverse it.
Habit reversal is not only relatively simple but it is also a relatively quick thing to overcome as well.
Habits tend to occur more when we’re either blissfully unaware of things, for example when we’re zoned out watching TV or perhaps bored on a long drive, or when we’re experiencing heightened anxiety or stress.
How hypnotherapy is used to help stop habits
During hypnotherapy sessions for habit reversal we would start by discussing exactly what your habit is, what it feels like when you do it and, as previously mentioned, the circumstances which you’re in when it occurs.
It can often be the case that you’re perhaps a little unaware of exactly when it happens and this conversation in itself can be helpful in that process.
Once we’re aware of exactly what’s going on and when it’s going on we can get to work on reducing it down to a level to which you’re happy with whether that’s completely stopped or just at a tolerable level for you.
If we find that the habit tends to happen more in times of heightened anxiety then our sessions will tend to focus more on reducing your stress and anxiety.
This is sometimes used in conjunction with the technique used if your habit happens more when your mind is elsewhere.
Hypnosis sessions will then teach you to have a heightened awareness of when your habit is happening and will be used to help “install” a counter-habit into your mind.
A counter-habit is something that, if you were to do it, then it would be impossible for you to “do your habit” – for example making a ball with your hands makes it impossible to bite your nails.
This combination of conversation, relaxation, hypnosis and counter-habit installation has been shown to be a very effective way to reduce any unwanted habits that you have in your life.
